How to take your construction business to the next level!
If you’re trying to take your business to the next level here is what you should look for and have in place before hiring sales people, estimators, project managers and bookkeepers or accountants.
Since 1984, we’ve been providing automation tools to help construction companies streamline their business and take their business to the next level. Since that time, we’ve sold and implemented thousands of automated systems that helped
- Salespeople sell more!
- Estimators estimate faster and create more accurate proposals!
- Project Managers manage projects better!
- Bookkeepers and accountants control costs and expedite the job costing, billing, bookkeeping and financial reporting needs of running a successful construction business!
What we’ve learned from our clients is that it is very important to hire people with the right skill set, training and experience in the position you’re hiring. If you want someone “Good” it is important to look at their personality traits. Most people lean toward a personality trait that makes them “Good”. For example:
- Good salespeople are ADHD (Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder)
- Good estimators/project managers are OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
- Good Bookkeepers/Accountants are Anal-Retentive
Unfortunately, these personality traits are negative by name but the reality is many successful people have one or all of these traits.
We’ve also discovered “Good” sales people tend to be on the less detailed side and “Good” estimators and project managers are more detailed and methodical. We’ve also discovered “Good” bookkeepers and accountants like to dot every “I” and cross every “T”, which is good for companies that require accountable job cost and financial reporting.
There are no guarantees but we believe the success rate is much higher when you find people with the experience, skill set and right personality trait that matches the position you’re hiring. If you’re trying to hire a person responsible for multiple roles like sales and estimating it becomes more difficult to find someone with both personality traits. If you do find someone with two of the three, you’re lucky because they’re hard to find and are typically called “Superstars”. If you find someone with three of the traits, they’re called a “Business owner”. The issues with hiring people with three of the personality traits is that you could be hiring and training your future competitor.
Unfortunately, we all can’t always hire or find “Superstars” but what has helped our clients take their business to the next level is the investing and implementing of a complete suite of integrated CRM, Estimating, Scheduling, Project Management and Job Cost Accounting software applications from Contractors Software Group. www.contractorssoftwaregroup.com
These automation tools have helped our client’s employees because they’re using standardized processes and procedures that are incorporated into the software. These are the same successful processes and procedures used by thousands of builders and contractors to help their staff sell more, generate more leads, estimate faster, create more accurate proposals, communicate better and bring more profit to their bottom line. By using these automated successful processes and procedures it makes everyone more productive and makes people better than what they would be if they didn’t have an automated system.
